Hey Reader, When my cousin's company told everyone last year that it was expected for everyone to use AI for about 70% of their work, there was a bit of pushback. "This is just cover for the layoffs." "It's beneath me, I'm a tech genius." "I've been using it for months, we're just saying it out loud now." No town hall fixed that. No better memo from leadership fixed it either. What ended the whole argument was a sorting exercise that took one afternoon and three columns on a piece of paper. I recognized the exercise on sight. It is the same one I have been walking women entrepreneurs through for decades, and it has almost nothing to do with AI. Generic output usually isn't a tool problem or a prompting problem. It's a delegation and training problem. Experienced CEOs know that you can't expect to successfully delegate to a team member without clearly training them on exactly what the outcome is meant to look like. But somehow, when we are using AI, we giving almost no context about our business and expecting it to deliver the perfect outcome in the first draft. This week on Promote Yourself to CEO, I'm taking you through the entire exercise out loud. In this week's episode, I'm getting into: → Why nobody hires a for the most strategic, highest level work first, and what that says about where most of us started with AI Listen on your favorite podcast platformI have now redrawn this diagram for the podcast, for social, and for two other projects, and I keep having to redo it as the tools get good at things they were not good at three months ago. That is not a flaw in the exercise. That is the exercise. If you tried AI once, got back something that read like a LinkedIn post from 2019, and quietly decided it was not for your kind of business, this one is for you. Racheal PS - If this episode has you thinking, "Okay, but what does it actually look like to train AI to take on real work in my business?" I have something timely to share. Callan Faulkner is hosting The AI Employee Bootcamp later this month, and I think it's a great next step if you've been following this Human First series with me. Over three live sessions, she's going to take you inside the systems she's built, show you how AI employees are being used across different types of businesses, and then help you actually build your first two. What I loved about learning from Callan is her trainings aren't "here are some cool prompts." It's much closer to the conversation we're having here: What work should AI actually be doing? What needs to be trained? And how do you move from occasionally chatting with AI to having it reliably handle real work? Early Bird Admission is $47 through September 13, so if you're curious, I'd take a look before the early bird ends.
