If you scroll through Instagram for even a second, it'll become clear what the overall message of so many celebrity entrepreneurs these days is bigger is better.

Their social media feeds all showcase this luxury lifestyle, complete with the designer clothes, fancy cars, expensive vacations...

... and of course, goal of sharing the luxury lifestyle is that those status symbols are meant to prove their level of success.

But as an entrepreneur who has spent her entire career working with small business owners, I call BS.

For one thing - you'd be amazed how many people showing off a luxury lifestyle as a trigger to boost their credibility are actually sharing photos featuring rent-the-runway designer clothes in an VRBO multi-million dollar home. Fake it till you make it has gone too far.

For another - many entrepreneurs often experience lifestyle creep as their business grows, which essentially creates a cycle of increasing expenses right along with increasing income that puts even more pressure on a business. They literally can't afford to not grow this cash-eating monster of a business.

All of this posturing has led to such a warped view of entrepreneurship!

I truly believe that a bigger business ISN'T necessarily better, especially if chasing growth at all costs means:

→ You feel like you're always ON in your business, thinking about work constantly and stressing about everything on your plate.

→ You don't have time for your family, your friends, or your loved ones because everything feels urgent in your business.

→ You start experiencing issues with your physical or emotional health because the mental load and invisible labor of entrepreneurship is overwhelming.
